WITH beautiful beaches, bustling nightlife and highs of 28C – this European city makes for the perfect last-minute getaway.
As the darker days creep in, many are looking to escape the grey weather that comes with autumn.

Greece is top of the list for many with plenty of big name destinations on offer, but it’s the less crowded city of Patras that’s not to be missed.
Dubbed as Greece’s‘Gate to the West’, Patras is one of the largest ports in the country.
Soak up the sun on some of Patras’ beautiful beaches including the Town Beach, Psathopyrgos Beach, Rodini Beach and Lambiri Beach.
History buffs can step back in time with lots to discover including The Castle of Patras, the Archaeological Museum of Patras and Saint Andrew Cathedral.
The castle makes for the perfect sunset viewing spot. Dating back to the 6th century AD, it’s accessible by a steep flight of steps from the Old Town.
Top must-visit restaurants include Argo, Rooster, Banana Moon and Salumeria Ristorante.
And wine lovers can indulge on a private luxury wine tour in Ancient Nemea.
Patras is home to the third largest university in Greece as well as a technological institution, making it a major student town.
Hundreds of thousands of visitors flock to Patras every February for one of Europe’s largest carnivals.
And while it boasts a bustling nightlife, in part due to the thousands of students based there, you’ll also find the ultimate relaxation zone at the Turkish Baths.
First founded back in the 1400s, they’re one of a few still in operation in Europe, and open to both men and women.
And Patras is within reach of the island of Corfu, with daily ferries from both Patras or from the Port of Igoumenitsa, about a 2.5 hour drive from Patras.
Ryanair bosses said: “The city itself is perhaps not as big a tourist centre as Athens or Thessaloniki, but when you book flights to Patras you’ll land on the doorstep of some fabulous adventures into Greece’s beautiful Peloponnese peninsula.
“This part of Greece is where many famous myths and legends were born, and when you see the incredible lush landscapes and dramatic scenery, you’ll understand why.
“Of course, if you’re feeling particularly daring you can hop on a ferry from Patras to Corfu or even Italy.”
Local Eva from Patras advised: “Every visitor should cross the Rio-Antirrio Bridge – its Greece’s version of the Golden Gate!
“It’s almost 3km long, and it’s really an incredible thing. You can drive, but for me I think it’s better to walk or cycle across, I do this every week.
“Once you get halfway across you feel so strange, almost as though you are stranded at sea – but it’s really lovely.
“It does cost €13.20 to cross, and this is expensive but truly I feel the experience is worth it.
“I like to get gelato from Gelatino back in the city after my walk – when I have earned it.”
